Thank you card from both families

February 19th 2011.

I had the pleasure of performing a baptism at the Alvirne Chapel, in Hudson, NH. for a couple whose wedding I had officiated a couple of years ago. Their gorgeous baby girl was dressed in  a full length christening gown and adorned with the most retro 1920s flapper style headband I have ever seen. She looked absolutely adorable!

This is an excerpt from the ceremony, as the rest is pretty personal to the participants and I don’t feel it should be shared.

This is a meaningful way to celebrate Alexandra’s life and for her family and friends to communally express their love for her and commitment to her upbringing.“No-one is born a new being.  He bears in his psyche the input of past generations.  He is a combination of ancestral units from which a new being must be fused, yet he also bears within him an essential germ, a potential of a unique individual value.  The discovery of this unique essence and its development is the quest of consciousness.” Therefore the ceremony of blessing this child is sacred in it’s actions of cleansing and preparing the spirit for the life ahead. May this child always walk in the love of God and may she be kept light of spirit throughout her days.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn;

If children live with hostility, they learn how to fight;

If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy;

If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.

If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient;

If children live with encouragement, they learn to have

confidence;

If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate;

If children live with fairness, they learn justice.

If children live with security, they learn to have faith;

If children live with approval, they learn to like

themselves;

If children live with love around them, they learn to

give love to the world.

It was a lovely day, despite the snow and ice on the ground. Of course, Alvirne is one of my favourite places and I always love conducting ceremonies there. I have a little quirk of putting lavender flowers in the flask which I decant the Holy Water into. It does smell great and I feel promotes relaxation in the recipient.

Alexandra behaved beautifully, accepted all graciously and truly was the star of the show! Welcome to the world Alexandra!
